It all started in 1977, when I was 9 years old, and my father took me to my first car show. It was at the New York Coliseum, a seven story event that was unlike anything I’d ever seen. This is back when every manufacturer was there, with hundreds of cars on display, all parked on carpet!, doors unlocked and you could get in and sit in every single one. And to my Dad’s amazement, that’s exactly what I did, on all seven floors. What he later confessed he thought would be an hour or so exercise I turned in to a five hour experience, drunk with the excitement and overstimulation of the whole thing. I’ve been going to shows every chance I get since, new shows, classic shows, specialty, an auction here and there. And yet I think every car enthusiast has also missed a car show they would have liked to have gone to, either due to finding out about it too late, or not even knowing about it at all.

 

Last year, I got a heads up about a car show not so far from me, and when I got to it it turned out to be an enormous event, one that had been running for years over a long holiday weekend. This was not even ten miles from my home, and I’d never heard of it. I spend an embarrassing amount of time online and reading about cars, car shows, and everything a car enthusiast can’t get enough of, yet I’d never heard of this show.

Walking through that show that day, I thought about it and figured I’m most likely not alone, and decided I wanted to try and fix that.
